The effect of volunteering upon volunteers’ Christian faith: Food poverty and holiday hunger

Volunteers have been increasingly important in responding to rising UK poverty the last decade context of austerity and retracting welfare state. Faith-based organisations particular played a vital role this response but whilst there has attention how religious faith can motivate people volunteer, paper is one first geographical pieces specifically focus on volunteers’ affected by volunteering. Inspired geographies religion, it conceptualises as fluid relational. This means cannot only be understood motivation at start volunteering, therefore volunteering needs understood. based experiences volunteers participatory research project ‘Lunch’ children’s holiday hunger. Engaging with journeys Lunch drew out two dominant ways which was affected: encouragement challenge from faith-based without explicit content, secondly, giving an unconditional welcome children Lunch. Overall, I argue that not unidirectional relationship because also challenged their affect motivations whether they will persist fundamentally change understanding faith.
